“Gautam Gambhir to replace Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach, according to a report on cricket news.”

The wait to know who will replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team may soon be over, as there are reports that Gautam Gambhir is set to take up the role. Gambhir’s name has been the talk of the Indian cricket circles, as his successful stint as the mentor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 franchise is boosting his prospects. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had shown interest in several big Australian names and other IPL coaches like Stephen Fleming and Andy Flower, it seems Gambhir is the frontrunner for the position.

Gambhir’s name came into the news when he served as the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), helping them put up a stellar performance in the league stage and eventually win

the final. After the final, Gambhir had a long discussion with BCCI secretary Jay Shah, leading to speculations about his possible appointment as Team India’s head coach.

According to a report in India Today, Gambhir is set to replace Dravid as Team India’s head coach. Gambhir, however, has recently taken up the role of KKR’s mentor after leaving his position with Lucknow Super Giants, another IPL team where he had served on the coaching staff since 2022.

Despite his lack of experience as a head coach at the national or IPL level, Gambhir’s key role in leading KKR to an IPL win this year has reportedly prompted the BCCI to seriously consider him as Dravid’s successor.

The board is expected to soon begin the process of interviewing the shortlisted candidates, with the Cricket Advisory Committee taking the lead.
