Ricky Ponting turned down a coaching job in India. Andy Flower is not interested. The BCCI continues its hunt.

Ricky Ponting and Andy Flower have ruled themselves out. They won’t be candidates for the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. The BCCI earlier this month invited applications for the role. This is because Rahul Dravid’s time ends at the T20 World Cup in June.

Ponting says he had personal talks during his time at IPL 2024 coaching Delhi Capitals. However, he turned down the option. He cited his current lifestyle and his full-time coaching r

ole with the Indian team. It meant he could not participate in the IPL.

“…there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL just to make me wonder if I would do it,” Ponting told the ICC. “I would love to be the senior coach of the national team, but with the other things I have in my life and I want to have some time at home… Everyone knows that if you take the job with the Indian team, you can’t be in the IPL team. So, you would be out of that too. “

Also, a national coach works for 10 or 11 months a year. As much as I would like to do it, it doesn’t fit my current lifestyle and the things I enjoy. ” he added.

Ponting was in talks about moving to India if he took up the job and his son was quite excited about the opportunity.

“My family and my kids spent the last five weeks with me at the IPL. They come here every year. I was whispering to my son about it,” he recalled.

“I said, ‘Dad’s been offered the India coaching job,’ I said. ‘Just take it, Dad, we’d like to move there for a couple of years,’ he said. Ponting joked. That’s how much they love it there and Indian cricket culture. But, it doesn’t fit my life now.”

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Flower says he has not applied for the role of India coach and has no plans to do so.

“I didn’t sign up. I will not apply. At this point, I’m happy with my involvement in the franchise game,” Flower told the media on Tuesday.

The deadline for applications for the role is May 27.
