India’s five-match T20I tour of Zimbabwe begins on Saturday, July 6, but three standout players – Sanju Samson, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube – are in the squad. He will not take part in the first T20I. The explanation for this absence is that the trio, who were part of India’s 2024 World Cup winning team, were stuck in Barbados until Wednesday due to Cyclone Brill and then celebrated in Delhi and Mumbai. The trio traveled to Harare, the Zimbabwe capital, in the early hours of Saturday morning and will be in action from the third T20I.
Why Are Sanju Samson And Yashasvi Jaiswal Not Enjoying In India’s First T20I vs Zimbabwe? | Cricket Information
The T20I series is a must-watch for Samson and Jaiswal, who have never played in a T20 World Cup. Even then, Dube was included in the Zimbabwe tour as a replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy, although he featured in every round of the T20 World Cup matches.
Samson enjoyed the best season of his career in the 2024 IPL season, scoring 531 runs, but had to play the violin in place of Rishabh Pant to grab the wicketkeeper’s place in the Indian squad. Furthermore, Jaiswal should earn a place in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s reserves regardless of whether he amasses more than 1,000 runs in the last two IPL seasons.
With Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja having withdrawn from T20Is, the impact of five matches during the Zimbabwe tour could pave the way for a daily presence of the boys in India’s group.
Shubman Gill, who narrowly missed out on making it into India’s T20 World Cup squad, is part of India’s starting lineup in Zimbabwe. Samson’s Rajasthan Royals teammates Ryan Parag and Dhruv Jholler made their T20I debuts in Zimbabwe’s first match, as did Abhishek Sharma.
