In the 27th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, the incident occurred when Axar Patel, who had just been brought into the attack, tricked Sadeera Samarawickrama into hitting a lofted shot.

As Samarawickrama danced down the track, trying to bat against the spin, Kohli foiled his attempt.

Taking a comfortable catch, Kohli reversed course and positioned himself at the covers. But his celebration was the one that stole the show. Once the dismissal was secured, Kohli turned to face the dugout and spontaneously started doing the Assamese folk dance, the Bihu.

Fans were thrilled by this surprise gesture, which went viral fast and sparked a rush of social media replies.

The gesture seemed to be a tribute to his Assamese teammate Riyan Parag, who is also a member of the Indian ODI team.

It is well known that Parag looks up to Kohli, and he has frequently shown his support for the Indian batting legend on his official social media profiles.

This was Parag’s first ODI squad call-up and his first time sharing a dressing room with Kohli, which happened during the Sri Lankan tour.

The Assam hitter is still waiting on a maiden cap in the format, though. In the past, he participated in T20I matches against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

For the first time since India’s devastating loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup final last year, Kohli returned to the ODI format.

Kohli had a quiet game in the opening ODI of the series, hitting just 24 in the 231-run chase, which resulted in an exciting draw in Colombo.

Captain Rohit Sharma made his comeback to the format throughout the series.

Charith Asalanka, the captain of Sri Lanka, chose to bat earlier in the second ODI, however the team lost wickets frequently in the first few overs.

With Gautam Gambhir as head coach and Suryakumar Yadav as the team’s T20I captain, India had earlier defeated the Lankans 3-0 in a clean sweep to usher in a new era.
