Algeria’s Imane Khelif made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the women’s 66kg final amid controversy over her gender. After winning the gold, Imane said she was

Speaking to the AP news agency, the boxer addressed the controversy surrounding his gender and said: “I am a woman, like all women, I was born a woman, I lived as a woman, but success has its enemies, and maybe it can be.” I can’t handle my success.

Imana had to fight an uphill battle for the platform amid gender controversies. In 2023, she was disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) for failing the gender qualification test. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) rejected the tests as “groundless” and allowed them to participate in the Olympic Games.
“We came to the Olympics to perform as athletes, and I hope that we will not face such attacks in the next Olympics,” he said. “I am fully qualified to participate in this competition.”
“I am a girl like any other girl. “I was born as a woman, I live as a woman, I deserve it,” she stated.
Imane and another boxer, Taiwan’s Lee Yu-ting, suffered similar controversies. Ongoing concerns about gender equality in sport.
The IBA initially banned both athletes, but allowed them to compete after the federation was suspended from the Olympics for administrative reasons.
