Team India is currently concentrating on the 2024 World Cup, and a former Indian cricketer has expressed his opinions on the potential appointment of Rahul Dravid as the head coach, replacing Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir’s reputation has been growing due to his successful return and the trophy victory with Kolkata Knight Riders.
He achieved success in the IPL both as a player and as a consultant.
According to WV Raman in an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), Gambhir has the credentials to become the new head coach of the Indian team. Raman believes that Gambhir understands what it takes to elevate the national side to the top.
“He will be somebody who knows what to do. What he will deliver is uncertain, as I do not have a crystal ball,” he commented. “But as far as his potential is concerned, he is good. He has also been a successful captain in the IPL and a good tactician,” Raman added.
Raman pointed out that despite Gambhir’s quality, the key remains how quickly the team can adjust to his coaching style and whether the players agree with his approach.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will be Rahul Dravid’s last job at the BCCI whose successor is yet to be announced.
India will soon take part in the Twenty20 World Cup, playing the opening match against Ireland at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York.
India put up a strong showing against Bangladesh in the recent warm-up match to secure a convincing 60-run win in New York. Players like Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh have stood out and are expected to be part of the starting XI for the first game.
